Mmmm, love me some top fuel, 320 MPH 1/4 miles. Do they run full 1/4 miles again?

The NHRA only runs 1000 feet, not the full 1320.

Interesting. I heard a while back they were only letting top fuel do 1/8 mile, sounds like they've worked it out. Too many high speed flips after the full 1/4. I didn't know if they had any changes or an aerodynamic stability breakthrough. 1000' is a good compromise for those things.

Do they still break 300 in the 1000'? I haven't followed Top Fuel in a few years.

I went to the Keystone Nationals in '93 when they were all just trying to break 300, only a few had done it and most runs were 295+, I saw one 301 MPH run. There's nothing like the thunder that makes you forget to breathe when standing at the 700' line or so, right next to the safety wall... No wonder all I hear is tones these days...

Only the fuel classes run 1000 feet. The remaining classes still run a quarter mile. This was done, along with the 90% max. nitro rule, was to prevent so many engine explosions.
